About this Event
You are invited to attend a Civil Rights Film Festival that was first launched at St. James Episcopal School and followed up by taking St. James Middle School students on a Freedom Tour to Louisiana, Mississippi, the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, Alabama.
Today’s students will not be so fortunate given the political climate of banning books for some of America’s award-winning authors. While public schools are still segregated, most of our teachers and parents have not been taught about the Civil Rights Movement. TCAALH is therefore taking advantage of the Third Ward Cultural District’s invitation to stage a Black History Month event that will share some of those hard-won victories of the 1950s and 60s.
In the words of Carter G. Woodson, “He who does not know his history is doomed to repeat it.” And in the words of some of our most recent political leaders, “We are not going back.”
Join us at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. The Sanctuary is located at 3129 Southmore. There will be a reception following.
The Texas Center for African American Living History is a non-profit organization for public education whose mission is to research, document, preserve, interpret, and distribute Texas history and culture that includes African Americans from the African American perspective.
