About this Event

How can design weeks have a positive impact on their host cities? In this public talk, CIVICITY residents will meet Milan-based designers to discuss this topic in the context of Milan Design Week. The discussion will take place at Villa Mirabello, where the work of 2025’s resident designers Pete Fung and Studio Method will be exhibited, as well as that of the 2026 residents Demo- practice and Ned Kaar.

This event will take place at Villa Mirabello 6 in Milan, Italy.

The talk, Reimagining the Design Week Platform, forms part of the CIVICITY presentation by the Nieuwe Instituut and cheFare, curated by Collective Works and on display during Milan Design Week. Rather than focusing solely on products, CIVICITY showcases design as a tool for engagement. It showcases how designers can foster inclusive processes, uncover hidden networks and collaborate with communities to create a lasting impact.

Pete Fung and Studio Method, the resident designers of CIVICITY 2025, present the outcomes of their residencies in Milan’s Chiaravalle and Adriano neighbourhoods. Accompanying them are new residents Demo- practice and Ned Kaar, who will share their initial findings after recently starting their residency cycle. There will be an exchange of experiences and insights with Milan-based designers Studio Latte and Frakas. The conversation will be moderated by Angela Rui.
