The City of Irving hosts an annual observance honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program features a special performance by Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Cherish Love, and recognition of the MLK Essay Contest winners. Admission is free and open to the public.Students are invited to submit an essay exploring the theme “Together We Dream: Building Stronger Community Through Action.” Submissions are accepted in three age categories: Grades 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. Selected winners will be recognized during the Irving MLK Observance on Jan. 18, 2026.
