Join Polk's Nature Discovery Center as we participate in the City Nature Challenge and contribute to citizen science!
What is a Bioblitz?
A bioblitz is a communal effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible
What is the City Nature Challenge?
The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. It’s a bioblitz-style competition where cities are in a friendly contest with each other to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people. - citynaturechallenge.org
This bioblitz will take place as part of our monthly Nature Fun-Day. Come visit us at the first booth for a brief introduction to iNaturalist and Seek (apps/tools that will help us engage in citizen science) and learn about what exactly is a Bioblitz. From there, you are welcome to explore the reserve on your own recording data that you collect along the way. Revist our booth after you conclude your hike and share with us how many species you recorded!

Location: Those planning to participate should visit the first booth at our Nature Fun-Day for more information on how to participate
Tickets & Sign-Ups: Tickets are not required to participate, but help us gauge how many participants to expect
Helpful tips for those planning to attend:
- Dress to be outdoors and appropriate for current weather conditions.
- Close-toed shoes are recomended.
- Make sure to apply sunscreen and bug spray.
- Bring a refillable water bottle.
- Use the restroom before starting out on the trail.
- Please remember that pets are not allowed on the property.
