For eight weeks, a group of community leaders will engage in a fundraising competition to earn Best Buddies Indiana’s “Champion of the Year” title, by raising funds for Best Buddies programs for the inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), such as Down syndrome and autism. I am honored to tell you that I am competing for Champion of the Year by raising funds to help people in Indiana with IDD!
People with IDD have been given many legal rights over the last 50 years, but often still feel socially isolated in the communities in which they live. My Champion of the Year campaign is part of the solution to this problem. Funds raised will help Best Buddies, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, match individuals with IDD together with individuals without IDD, creating friendships that can last a lifetime. In addition to providing friendship opportunities, Best Buddies Indiana offers leadership development and inclusive employment opportunities for people with IDD.
