Citrus Heights Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event
Citrus Heights residents can dispose of paint, fuels, electronics, and other household hazardous waste by dropping it off at a free, one-day event on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm at Mesa Verde High School.
This event, coordinated by Republic Services and the City of Citrus Heights, is open only to Citrus Heights residents. No appointment or reservation is required.
When dropping off your household hazardous waste, pack the materials in the trunk, stay in your vehicle, and have your driver's license ready. Professional crews will unload and handle all the toxic materials. Check below for a list of acceptable and unaccepteable items.
Accepteable items:
- Paint: latex, water- and oil-based paints (paint cans should be consolidated. Empty dry cans can be disposed of in your regular garbage bin).
- Gasoline, antifreeze, brake fluid, and other motor vehicle liquids (no used motor oil accepted*)
- Solvents and paint removers
- Adhesives and sealants
- Pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers
- Photo processing chemicals
- Household cleaners
- Pool chemicals
- Aerosol cans
- Vehicle Batteries (no household batteries accepted*)
- Fluorescent lights/tubes
- Mercury-containing devices.
- Most products labeled CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, or POISON.
Unacceptable items include:
- HHW from businesses or non-profit organizations
- Radioactive materials
- Tires.
- Explosives.
- Pharmaceuticals
- Compressed gas cylinders
- Treated wood waste
- Home-generated sharps*
- Used motor oil*
- Household batteries*
