Join us at the Scottish Parliament for a morning to explore how arts and humanities research can engage with citizenship and policy.
About this Event

This session will provide an opportunity for PhD researchers to familiarise themselves with the workings and environment of the Scottish Parliament, specifically the role of SPICe: the Scottish Parliament Information Centre, which provides impartial, factual, accurate information and analysis to Members in support of Scottish Parliament parliamentary business.

It will focus on how academic research might contribute to the work of the parliament and the skills required for this, including SPICe’s Academic Fellowship scheme. We will start with a tour of the Scottish Parliament building, followed by presentations on the role of the academic fellowship and academic research, how the Parliament is uses creative techniques in scrutiny, including data visualisation, and a case study looking at the Menstruation Research Network’s work around the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill and Act of 2021-22.

Accessibility

The Scottish Parliament building is an accessible building, but please let us know if you have any access requirements by contacting the event organiser. Please see the Scottish Parliament’s visitor guidance for details on how to get to the Parliament, including accessibility.
