February is American Heart Month and there's no better time to consider getting a heart check up. Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.? Our physicians at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) want to see you before you have symptoms or a life-changing cardiac event.The Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) and Iberia Medical Center are hosting free cardiovascular screenings, as well as women’s heart health presentations, at CIS New Iberia (500 N Lewis St, Suite 100, New Iberia, LA 70563) on Tuesday, February 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Guests will receive a complimentary Electrocardiogram (EKG) and Blood Pressure Screenings. An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. Results will be reviewed on site.
Risk factors of vascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive. Refreshments will be provided.
