About Brian Walker II
Brian Walker II is an Inupiat and Deg Hit’an mask maker in Anchorage, AK. Previously an apprentice to the esteemed Perry Eaton and Alvin Amason, Brian went on to intern with the Walt Disney Imagineering company and in 2020 he obtained his BFA at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Growing up living off the land and being taught cultural traditions, Brian uses his identity and background to express Indigenous narratives. He attains his inspirations from invaluable life experiences as well as everyday encounters with the animals and people of Alaska.
Brian Walker II began his artistic journey by carving masks for his family’s traditional dances. Over time, he has developed his career to deeply explore Alaska Native narratives and cultural concepts. His work is driven by a desire to gain a deeper understanding of Alaska Native culture and his own individual identity, using art as a means of expression. Through his practice, Walker aspires to inspire future Indigenous generations to embrace their own unique identities and spirituality.
