The CIPDNI Employment Law Event will explore in detail the proposed Good Jobs Bill and the impact that this will have on employers.
About this Event

The event will provide practical assistance on the potential changes within the proposed Themes A to D, along with a review of relevant case studies to show the impact of these changes.

  • Theme A: General update of ZHCs, written statements, fire rehire, employment status.
  • Theme B: General update on tips, payslips, holiday pay, WTR and right to disconnect.
  • Theme C: General update on TU rights, ICE, TUPE.
  • Theme D: General update on flexible working, pat/neonatal/carers leave and enhanced redundancy protection.

Horizon scanning will identify issues to be aware of, namely Domestic abuse, Parental Bereavement leave, Pay reporting and Equality developments.



Speakers:

Adam Brett

Consultant Partner

Adam has over 20 years of experience focusing on employment and discrimination matters, advising clients on disciplinary and grievance issues, discrimination law, and mental health concerns. He has extensive expertise in TUPE/Service Provision Change, working with both public and private sectors. Adam also handles high-level internal disputes and restrictive covenants.

He is highly regarded in the field, ranked by Legal 500 and Chambers, and serves as deputy Chairman of the Employment Lawyers Group Northern Ireland. Additionally, he lectures on TUPE and discrimination law and contributes to publications on Northern Ireland employment law.


Paul Gillen

Partner

Paul is a partner in Lewis Silkin’s Employment, Immigration and Reward division in Belfast, qualified in England & Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. He provides cross-jurisdictional and comparative law advice to clients across the UK and Ireland on both contentious and non-contentious matters, including HR support, mergers & acquisitions, restructuring, TUPE, and employment litigation.

Paul has extensive experience working with clients from various sectors, including food, retail, manufacturing, pharma, IT services, financial services, education, and government departments. He is a Band 1 ranked Employment Partner in Northern Ireland and a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, with a practical background in commercial HR management.


Kevin Gallagher

Managing Associate

Kevin has extensive experience of advising employers across a broad range of sectors. He has expertise of defending claims on behalf of employers in the Industrial Tribunal and Fair Employment Tribunal to include unfair dismissal claims, discrimination claims, whistleblowing and claims arising under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations/Service Provision Change (Protection of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006. I also regularly act for Employers in the defence of employment related claims issued in the County Court and High Court in Northern Ireland.


Emma Grossmith

Managing Associate

Emma is qualified in both England and Wales, and Northern Ireland. She advises on a wide range of employment law issues, including equalities, documentation, capability, disciplinary and grievance management, dismissals, settlement negotiations, redundancies, and tribunal litigation. Emma has particular expertise in employment issues arising from corporate restructures, outsourcing, acquisitions, and disposals, including TUPE and the retention or exit of key staff.


Freddy Reilly

Senior Associate

Freddy has extensive employment law experience in Northern Ireland. He has advised public, private, and charitable employers on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Freddy has represented clients in the Industrial Tribunal and Fair Employment Tribunal on claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, and whistleblowing. He also advises on internal matters such as grievances, disciplinaries, changes to terms and conditions, industrial action, and day-to-day employee relations.


There is on street parking in the nearby streets as well as NCP Parking in Montgomery Street, Q Park in Victoria Square, and APCOA in Lanyon Place and Oxford Street at Hilton Hotel.
