If you missed it when it was briefly released on IMAX back in February last year, here is your next-best opportunity to watch and hear this incredibly immersive and cinematic documentary on the origins and meteoric rise of the greatest rock band of all time. Here are 10 other reasons you shouldn’t miss it:
1. It’s powered by the brilliantly restored and remastered, never-before-seen footage of their studio rehearsals, early performances, and concerts.
2. It includes never-seen photos, reels, and materials from their private archive collections
3. MacMahon’s documentary is the first officially sanctioned film about the group.
4. Because the film concludes with the band’s first UK concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall (to reflect the doc’s title), it ends before the scandals, drugs, and all the dirt began to track and soil the band’s path of fame
5. The film is told by John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant in their own words. Now in their early 80’s, they look spry and happy.
6. The film features never-before seen and heard interviews and conversations with John Bonham, the band’s drummer whose tragic death in 1980 ended Led Zeppelin’s run.
7. Our screening will coincide with the long-awaited 4K Blu-ray release by its US distributor, Sony Pictures Classics
8. Most importantly, this documentary is about Led Zeppelin’s music which, thanks to present technology, never sounded better. For us older folks, it’s an ecstatic nostalgia trip, but for those who are younger, it is a time-travel ride back to witness the thrill and miracle of their sound.
