As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday this week, we’ll watch Frank Capra's inspiring Best Picture nominee about a wide-eyed patriotic bumpkin named Jefferson Smith (James Stewart), who's appointed to the Senate by corrupt politicians, chief among them and unbeknownst to Smith is a senior senator whom he idolized. Stewart was nominated for Best Actor, and the film received 11 total Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Writing, Original Story. 129 minutes, Not Rated.
