We’ll show EVIL DOES NOT EXIST, a Japanese drama, at the Landmark Bethesda Row Cinema, 7235 Woodmont Avenue, Bethesda, MD. As always, coffee/tea and bagels/cream cheese are included in the admission price of $15 per person (cash or checks only), starting at 9:30 am.
Evil Does Not Exist ( 悪は存在しない; Aku wa Sonzai Shinai) explores traditional life, “progress”and the consequences of change. Residents of the mountain village Mizubikilearn of a proposal to develop a glamping site, that will affect their lives. The developers’ intentions endanger both the ecological balance of nature and the villagers’ way of life. The cast of non-professional actors includes a single father who lives in the village that is disrupted by the real estate project; the residents confront the impact of the development on their environment, especially the delicate water system.
