Join talented ceramicist Michelle Yeatman from the Yarrabah Art Centre in a sensory masterclass that offers a unique opportunity to delve into the art of ceramic handbuilding, specifically focusing on the creation of ceramic spheres.
Michelle Yeatman will guide participants through the process of handbuilding these spheres using design-moulding of patterns, shapes and textures. Techniques for creating these textures may include carving, stamping, or pressing patterns into the clay.
Once the desired texture is achieved, the spheres will be refined and shaped using Michelle’s sphere moulds. These moulds help to ensure a consistent and precise spherical shape, allowing participants to focus on perfecting their decorative and textural elements.
This masterclass not only provides practical skills in ceramic hand building but also offers an insight into the rich cultural heritage and artistic and ceramic traditions of the Yarrabah Art Centre community. Michelle Yeatman, with her expertise and cultural knowledge, provides a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. Michelle (Mickey) Yeatman, a dedicated Gunggandji woman, was born and raised within the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Yarrabah Community. Her journey into the world of art began in 1982 when she embarked on her apprenticeship at the Yarrabah pottery studio, initially tasked with the meticulous work of mixing raw clay. However, it wasn't long before Michelle's innate talents led her to discover her true passion lay in the craft of hand-building pots
