World leaders, powerful CEOs, and assorted other fat cats could learn myriad lessons from Chromeo, but the number one tip that Dave 1 and P-Thugg have is this: Know thyself, know thy vibe, and stay thy course. The rest of the population will catch up. What this means is that Chromeo is really good at being Chromeo. The mission, the package, the vision—it’s been a straight shot of pure intentionality from the jump. These Chromeo dudes? They have the whole being-these-Chromeo-dudes thing totally wired.
Chromeo is an electrofunk duo based in Montreal, Canada and New York City. They are P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) on keyboards, synthesizers and talk box, and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch) on guitar and lead vocals.
The two were best friends since childhood and officially formed the band in 2002. They describe themselves as the only successful Arab/Jewish collaboration since the beginning of time.David Macklovitch is currently earning his Ph.
With a love of talkboxes, vintage drum machines, and gleamingly plastic synth tones, Montreal electro-funk duo Chromeo have continually looked to the deepest echelon of '80s funk and radio R&B to develop their sound. While wearing the influence of Zapp, Prince, and even Hall & Oates on their sleeve, the pair's style would grow more refined as the years went on, with production getting more detailed as their songwriting became more nuanced. Their homage to the greats of the dancefloor and their unbridled worship of pop reached its summit on their star-studded breakout fourth album, 2014's White Women. Another full-length, Head Over Heels, appeared in 2018 followed by an EP and their first live album, 2022's Date Night: Chromeo Live!. Their sixth album, Adult Contemporary, arrived in 2024, applying the duo's signature sound to themes of middle age.
Chromeo, formed in 2002 by musicians David "Dave 1" Macklovitch and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel. Their sound draws from soul music, dance music, rock, synth-pop, disco and funk.
As of 2024, the band has released six studio albums, with three of them hitting the Billboard 200 charts. In 2018, Chromeo received their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for their album Head over Heels.
