Chrome Embrace is a one day tango based Live Action Roleplay (LARP) / improvised storytelling event. It will run 10:00 - 23:00 at Haughley Village Hall, The Folly, Stowmarket IP14 3NS. The event is run by Bryony Baines & Tim Baker, as Raven Tango.
Cost: £50, or £10 financial accessibility ticket.
Booking: The booking form can be found here. You do not need to book with a partner: https://forms.gle/cWBtuPtgF9u2WjRv7
Event Guide: Full details of the event including everything you need to know to book, parking, accessibility, food, accommodation suggestions etc can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lPaVtYh7W7ebxEEemuNoeT0i4UeQPBP4-u67Z4BzeIA/edit?usp=sharing
The day will run as a series of workshops, collaboratively creating the characters who inhabit this story world together and developing shared argentine tango vocabulary and storytelling techniques.
After supper we will enter the “in character” section of the event, where we tell out the intertwined stories of these characters and their fates. In this section all communication and storytelling is solely through movement and dance, primarily through Argentine Tango. Every dance and every story is improvised in that moment - nobody knows how they will end.
This event is not suitable for complete beginners to Argentine Tango. We do also run full weekend events which are aimed at people from a storytelling or LARP background with no dance experience where we will teach you the basics of Argentine Tango from scratch. That takes longer than a single day unfortunately!
This one day event is suitable for:
* Anyone who has done a previous weekend tangolarp with us
* Anyone who has done a beginners Argentine Tango course elsewhere or who already dances argentine tango socially (if you see this and desperately want to take part there is still time to find a beginners course! See: https://www.argentinetango.co.uk/ to find your local tango club. In fact Tango is amazing - do this anyway).
* If you are desperate to come and cannot find a local course then we may consider running an additional workshop on the Friday evening to get newbies up to speed - please message if this applies to you….
We will be doing a recap of the basics of communicating through the tango embrace and moving together at the start of Saturday, so if you have done some tango but are a bit rusty that’s fine, we’ve got you covered.
For more details of what LARP / improvised storytelling is, or more details about argentine tango in this context, please see the Event Guide (link above).
This is part of a weekend of Tango themed events - PLEASE ALSO SEE SEPARATE EVENTS FOR SUNDAY 23rd March including “Adaptive Tango” and a workshop with Erin & Doruk:
https://fb.me/e/2LvR1wQIr
The Sat & Sunday events are standalone and you can attend one without the other - but you may be interested to do all of these.
Profits for this weekend of events will be donated to the charity Micro Rainbow, which supports LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees in the UK.
SETTING for CHROME EMBRACE:
It is 2066. Workers in the megacities are under constant surveillance by the corporations. Only in the Underbelly, the gang-controlled slums beyond CorpGov’s long reach is there relief from oppression. At the heart of the Underbelly sits the SALVATION CLUB. A melting pot of Corp spire workers letting loose, informants, spies, gangsters, poets, dreamers, undercover replicants, their allies and hunters. People come to SALVATION for all kinds of reasons, but there is always something they need. There is always something to lose. There is nowhere else.
Tonight it ends. At midnight the enforcers will move in to clear the district. Tonight, scores must be settled. Relationships will be forged and broken. Anything that there is left to say or do - must happen tonight.
Chrome Embrace is set in a fairly generic cyberpunk world based loosely on the Bladerunner universe. Replicants exist, but are banned on the homeworlds and so any who are in the Underbelly are there illegally and undercover.
The setting is loosely defined, in part because the nature of dancelarp is that stories are about relationships and emotional truths rather than nitty gritty details of backgrounds.
Characters will be created as part of an iterative, collaborative process. The most important thing about a character is their relationships, and the decisions that are at their core.
Any questions, please message!
