Artist’s Statement
My work explores imagination, transformation, and the emotional language of color. Through painting and drawing, I combine elements of abstraction, surrealism, and figurative imagery to create visual worlds that feel both playful and introspective. I’m drawn to forms that are slightly distorted or unexpected—robots, fragmented figures, shifting shapes—because they allow me to communicate ideas about identity, vulnerability, and the strange beauty of everyday life.
Color is central to my process. I approach painting intuitively, often building layers that react to one another until a visual rhythm emerges. Bright palettes and strong contrasts are used not simply for impact, but to evoke psychological states—moments of tension, humor, curiosity, or reflection. The paintings develop through a balance of control and accident, where spontaneous marks interact with more deliberate composition.
Much of my work is informed by personal experience and transformation. Art has been a way for me to process change, navigate difficulty, and rediscover a sense of curiosity about the world. Because of this, my work often carries an undercurrent of resilience—images that may appear playful at first glance but contain deeper emotional layers.
My background in music also influences how I paint. I think about composition the way a musician might think about sound—through rhythm, repetition, improvisation, and variation. Each painting becomes a kind of visual improvisation where shapes, colors, and marks interact like instruments in a piece of music.
Ultimately, my goal is to create work that invites viewers into a space of imagination and emotional openness. I want the paintings to feel alive—strange, humorous, sometimes uneasy—but always human.
