Christmas markets, known as Christkindlmarkts, have been a German tradition since at least the mid 1500s. They were an especially joyous, anticipated event, as they brought light and and laughter to a cold, dark season. Local tradesmen sold their wares at the market and food and beverages served were produced in the region.
Santa may appear for free pictures as well!
