We invite you to join us to begin our celebration of 100 years of Christ Church Cranbrook and her mission with an archive display curated to commemorate the beginning of regular worship services.
The display will cover the early history of Christ Church, including conceptual renderings and architectural drawings, historic photographs, and handwritten letters. It will also feature an archival vignette of the Rev. Dr. Marquis, including early sermons, biographical notes, and writings. These one-of-a-kind treasures help us to understand why the founders were impressed to build a church and offered worship at Cranbrook before any other institution was contemplated, why they eventually chose the Episcopal Diocese, the extraordinary trust and affinity that grew between George G. Booth and Dr. Marquis, and the dignity of craftsmanship in our beautiful church.
Laura MacNewman is Associate Archivist with Cranbrook Archives, which preserves the archives of the six original institutions of Cranbrook and of auxiliary groups and individuals affiliated with them. Laura curated this archival display to celebrate the first in a series of centennial anniversaries in the founding of Cranbrook as a cultural community with Christ Church Cranbrook at its heart through the faith and vision of the founders and entrusted to the guidance of the Rev. Dr. Marquis.
