About Chris Jones (From Wolf Jett):
When he’s not fronting local Santa Cruz band Wolf Jett, Chris stays true to his folk, soul and country blues roots. Born in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, his voice is smooth as Tennessee whiskey, while his guitar pickin’ cuts from Chet Atkins to Keith Richards in no time.
As versatile a musician as you will find, Chris is able to seamlessly intertwine classic and obscure covers with his seemingly timeless originals. He can play to any crowd under any circumstances, and he’s proven it time after time, whether busking the streets of Spain, touring the sweatiest clubs in every major city, or playing the hushed cafes and house concerts tucked away into the tiniest of towns.
He currently performs with his vintage hollowbody Epiphone through a small tube combo amplifier, but he’s equally at home on acoustic. No gimmicks, no tricks, just straight vocals and guitar with a few stories in between. He has recently opened for a wide range of artists like The White Buffalo, Cedric Burnside, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, Arcadian Wild, Brett Dennen, Coco Montoya and Waylon Payne. He has performed solo at the Saratoga Mountain Winery Garden Stage, KC Turner Presents, and Felton Music Hall. He frequently does covers by Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Otis Redding, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, and Neil Young, to name a few.
About Echoes & Artifacts:
Now in their 7th year together as a duo, Allyson Makuch and Rory Cloud of Echoes & Artifacts have developed a sound that blends modern and traditional styles with powerful songwriting, intricate guitar arrangements and soulful melodies. As individuals, Allyson and Rory draw inspiration from a range of musical pedagogies, life experiences and interdisciplinary artistic practices.
Allyson’s passion for music began with singing opera, choral, jazz and theatrical music, but when she picked up the guitar at 14 she knew she wanted to write her own songs and share her own voice. Her voice was further transformed during her college years when she started singing backing vocals for an old time band in Vermont. Old time’s traditional and often modal sound combined with modern folk and Americana sensibilities continues to show itself in Allyson’s writing. Allyson has since been involved in many projects as a singer and performer, including touring as a backing vocalist for Josiah Johnnson (of The Head and the Heart), and singing with Santa Cruz based songwriter Nels Andrews.
Rory comes from a musical family with parents who both played guitar and wrote songs together. He spent his formative years studying music in school and playing in garage bands, and went on to study jazz in college and perform with dozens of projects in a wide range of genres throughout his 20s and early 30s. Rory is a trained guitarist, percussionist, vocalist and engineer/producer. He’s performed thousands of shows throughout 40 states, Canada, Ireland and China. He’s been involved in music competitions, including winning the FreshGrass duo contest in North Adams, MA in 2014 with his former band. He’s had music featured by NPR and Acoustic Guitar magazine, and performed at festivals around the country including Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lions, CO.
In recent years, Echoes & Artifacts have supported artists such as The Jerry Douglas Band, Josiah Johnson, and Steve Poltz. They are currently in pre-production for their debut album, planned for release in 2025.
Here’s what GoodTimes of Santa Cruz has to say about Echoes & Artifacts:
"As a songwriter, Allyson Makuch doesn't like to dress up her music with unnecessary fluff. Her songs, which are performed passionately in acoustic splendor with multi-instrumentalist Rory Cloud, cut right to the sometimes uncomfortable marrow of her deepest emotions. The name of their musical collaboration, Echoes & Artifacts, reflects the transcendental lens through which they view songs: the past echoing for an eternity, or at least as long as people take the time to listen. This duo plays their instruments with the awareness of the power they wield with their acoustic guitars, and takes no detours in expressing something authentic and heartbreaking at its core." Aaron Carnes, GoodTimes, Santa Cruz, CA
