Join local naturalist Captain Zach Steinhauser for a laid-back bird watching tour designed just for teenagers. Known for his work with purple martins, Zach will guide you through the beauty of local wildlife—no pressure, no stress, just a chance to relax and reconnect with nature.

The birdwatching tour will take place at beautiful . Group transportation to and from Saluda Shoals Park will be provided by Palmetto Athletic Center. The bus will pick up attendees from Pilgrim Lutheran Church (1430 North Lake Dr, Lexington) at 8:00 am and and return for drop off at 11:00 am.

Bring binoculars if you have them! We will try to provide a few extras. Closed-toed walking shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and a water bottle are encouraged. This will be an easy walking tour, mostly on paved or cleared paths with occasional inclines or uneven surfaces.

MEET YOUR GUIDE: Zach Steinhauser is a naturalist based in Lexington, SC. Known as “The Purple Martin Guy,” he leads popular guided birdwatching tours on Lake Murray and produced the conservation film Purple Haze highlighting the importance of Purple Martin habitat. At Wingard’s Market, educates the community about wildlife-friendly gardening and habitats. With a degree in Wildlife Ecology & Conservation from the University of Florida, Zach brings global wildlife filmmaking and photography experience to his work educating and inspiring environmental stewardship.
