Join Cadence K9 Dog Trainer Chelsea Morales and the community for a free Pack Walk through Chino Creek Wetlands and Educational Park. What is a Pack Walk?
A Pack Walk is a well-organized and controlled group of dogs walking together on leash. Dogs maintain a safe distance from one another while moving in the same direction. This allows for calm exposure to other dogs without physical interaction. Dogs are close enough to experience positive passing interactions, but far enough apart to prevent overstimulation or tension.
Why do a Pack Walk?
Walking together as a group satisfies your dog’s instinctual need to migrate and is an ideal form of socialization. Even nervous or reactive dogs can benefit, as they learn to bond in a calm and structured way. Dogs stay mentally engaged by matching pace, maintaining position, and observing the environment. This type of structured socialization is safer than off-leash parks or typical greetings, and helps your dog focus on cooperation over competition. It’s also a great way to exercise, reinforce training, and build trust in a low-pressure setting.
Location: Chino Creek Wetlands and Educational Park
Meeting Point: Parking lot off the Kimball Ave entrance.
GPS Coordinates: 33.967570, -117.678290
* The trail is lined with small rock/gravel that is comfortable for most dogs. Dog shoes are optional based on your dog’s comfort level. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water for yourself and your dog. There are limited water fountains along the trail. Shade is intermittent, but we will stop for a break at the amphitheater area.
* This will be an out-and-back style hike. Depending on weather and trail conditions, the walk will be 1–2 miles and last 30–60 minutes.
Who’s Invited?
This is a free, community event. Please feel free to invite others, but make sure they are aware of the safety protocols outlined below.
* Children are welcome if they are old enough to understand how to behave calmly and safely around unfamiliar dogs. If bringing children, please ensure a second guardian is present. Children should not pet or distract dogs they do not know.
* All breeds, ages, sizes, and socialization levels are welcome. Pack Walks are particularly helpful for dogs who are reactive or under/over-socialized. Muzzled dogs are welcome and encouraged, as long as the muzzle is breathable and well-fitted. There is no room for judgment for muzzled dogs at this event — we support and celebrate responsible efforts to provide dogs with safe exposure and structured socialization.
Ribbon Rules
Ribbons will be available at the start of the walk. These can be tied to your dog’s leash to indicate the space they need from others. You may take multiple ribbons in case your dog’s behavior changes throughout the walk.
* Green – Dog is consistently friendly with other dogs and requires less space. (Note: physical greetings are still not allowed during the walk.)
* Yellow – Dog is cautious or anxious and requires at least 3 feet of space.
* Red – Dog is reactive or very nervous and requires at least 5 feet of space.
If a dog does not have a ribbon, please treat them according to Red ribbon guidelines.
Safety Protocols
* No nose-to-nose, nose-to-butt, or any physical dog-to-dog contact during the walk. After the walk, physical greetings are allowed only with mutual consent from all involved parties. Ribbon rules remain in effect.
* Maintain positive control over your dog. Stay aware of your surroundings and keep dogs from invading others’ space.
* All dogs must be on a standard 4 to 6 foot leash. Retractable leashes are not allowed - they are unsafe in group settings due to their fragile locks and tendency to tangle.
* No female dogs in heat.
* Dogs must be in good health and up to date on vaccines and basic veterinary care.
* Pick up after your dog immediately.
* Dogs must remain leashed before, during, and after the walk.
* You may bring training treats for your dog, but people food should not be eaten during the walk for safety reasons.
Please Note:
This is a public event in a public space. By attending, you agree to assume full responsibility for yourself, your children, and your dog(s), and to hold all hosting parties harmless.
