About this Event
Join the Washington Architectural Foundation, the Cleveland Park Historical Society, and Friends of Cleveland Park Library for a free children’s walking tour of Cleveland Park.
Beginning at the Cleveland Park Library, our tour leader and architect, Mary Kay Lanzillotta, will provide a brief overview of neighborhood history and architectural terms. Then, young explorers and their families will set out on a neighborhood adventure to discover how architects design homes and buildings. Along the way, participants will learn to “read” architecture by spotting details like towers, dormers, fan-shaped windows, and decorative woodwork on some of Cleveland Park’s most interesting historic buildings.
Stops include neighborhood landmarks such as the iconic Uptown Theater as well as several distinctive homes representing styles like Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, Colonial Georgian Revival, and Foursquare. Kids will receive a special illustrated booklet to look for architectural clues along the way.
Designed for children ages 9–12. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult chaperone. Advance registration is required and space is limited. Please register for the number of people that will attend with your group. Comfortable walking shoes recommended.
