A morning of exploring for budding citizen scientists.
About this Event

Observe and identify local biodiversity around Sandy Creek in Casuarina Coastal Reserve with the MAGNT Education Team and MAGNT Curator Emeritus of Molluscs, Dr Richard Willan. Explore the fascinating world of molluscs and other creek life and discover more about the ecosystems of the mangroves and tidal creeks. Return to MAGNT and visit the Natural Science gallery and complete activities in the Discovery Centre with special guests from Landcare NT.


The field bus will depart MAGNT at 8am and return by 11am where the experience will continue in the Discovery Centre.


7:45am | Check -in commences at entrance to MAGNT

8:00am | Field trip bus departs MAGNT

8:30am | Field walk briefing including schedule and introductions

8:45am | Field walk and observations

10:30am | Field trip bus departs to return to MAGNT

11:00am | Citizen Science activities commence in the Discovery Centre

12:00pm | Pack up and pick up


Suitable for ages 10 to 15 | Free | Bookings essential | Accompanying adult welcome

This is a dedicated children's program. Adults can only attend if accompanying children.

Appropriate closed in footwear for bush walking, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks and drink bottles are essential.

Please cancel your booking if you are no longer able to make it to free up tickets for others.


Key Information

Arrive at MAGNT between 7:45am and 7:55am to check-in before boarding the bus.

Parents and carers who are unable to attend must complete a MAGNT Field Trip Permission Slip on check-in.

MAGNT staff will have a basic field first aid kit. Please bring any Medic*tion you require to maintain your personal health and safety.

The field trip will conclude in the Discovery Centre.


MAGNT acknowledges the traditional owners of Country across the Northern Territory and beyond, and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
