About this Event
Walk Leader: Jenna Chalifoux - Edmonton City as Museum Project (ECAMP)
Date & Time: Sunday, May 3rd, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Description: From Forts to floods, learn how the Rossdale neighbourhood changed through the lives of two kids who grew up there: Donny and Dolly Ross. This family-friendly tour will be led by local heritage writer Jenna Chalifoux.
You’ll learn about:
- The Ross family’s arrival and running Edmonton’s first hotel
- How kids in the 1880s ate, played, and worked
- Coal mining, brewing, and gardening in Rossdale
- The time flying ace Wop May dropped a baseball from an airplane
- Iconic landmarks like the Ortona Armouries and Rossdale Brewery
- How the devastating 1915 flood reshaped Edmonton
You’ll also taste Scottish oat crackers, listen to the sounds of birds and trains, touch pieces of the past, and get a chance to try real spruce gum.
This tour is presented by the Edmonton City as Museum Project (ECAMP), an initiative of the Edmonton Heritage Council. It’s a pilot for a regular tour we’ll be offering this summer! You’ll be able to catch it every week from June through September.
