Description:
In today's rapidly evolving digital world, children are navigating an online playground filled with both exciting opportunities and hidden dangers. Cyberbullying + Texting + Screen Time + Toxic Images = Yikes! As kids grow up in a tech-driven society, they often face challenges that move faster than their emotional and cognitive development. This course, Navigating the Virtual Playground: Healthy Choices and Worrisome Pitfalls for Today’s Youth, will provide practical tools to help parents and caregivers guide young people through the digital age. Technology is not inherently harmful, but without the right guidance, kids can get lost. Join us to learn how to promote healthy tech habits while fostering empathy and a strong sense of self in children.
This session will explore the risks children face online and offer positive, effective responses for adults. Topics include cyberbullying, online grooming, and creating a safety network for kids in your care.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the potential challenges that arise when young, developing minds are exposed to extended screen time.
- Gain insight into the tactics of online grooming, particularly the attention/affection trap used in exploitation.
- Learn how to build a safety network of 5 trusted adults for each child or youth in your care.
