About this Event
Join us for a family-friendly cooking class led by Foodsmart Dietitian Truly Gannon.
Attendees will learn how to cook a hearty frittata with in-season vegetables and will
get to taste their creations! During the demo, Truly will talk about the importance of
fueling your body with healthy foods and answer general nutrition questions.
There are 30 spots available for child-parent/caregiver duos. All children must be 5+ and accompanied by an adult. Our goal is to teach 15 families how to try new healthy recipes within their budget. Participants will use ingredients from the weekly Plant Chicago food box (that include locally sourced, farm fresh produce). Each family will receive a food box to take home.
Truly Gannon is a wife, mom of four, and Foodsmart Dietitian. She has served patients at
Lawndale Christian Health Center for the past 17 years and currently sees Foodsmart
patients via telehealth. In the little free time she has you will find her running around the
neighborhood, training for her next 5K.
Foodsmart is a leading nutrition provider dedicated to supporting the health and well-
being of Chicago’s communities. Our mission is deeply aligned with the needs of Chicago’s
residents: to combat food insecurity and prevent diet-related chronic conditions.
Foodsmart creates lasting and sustainable change in Medicaid communities by tackling
the root causes of food and nutrition insecurity. We provide members with personalized
guidance and access to affordable healthy food options. In turn, we see improved food
and nutrition security, more health equity, and better engagement and enrollment. It all
starts with our registered dietitians who offer nutrition counseling and help determine
whether members are eligible for SNAP and, if so, help them get enrolled.
