Chief Nike Okundaye: Art, Activism & African Textiles with Kofo Adeleke
About this Event
Join Kofo Adeleke, author of A Biography of Nike – Bàtà Mi á Dún Ko Ko Kà, for a fascinating insight into the extraordinary life of Chief Nike Okundaye, an African cultural icon who rose from a deeply impoverished background to become a foremost champion of the revival of indigenous textile art and owner of the biggest art gallery in west Africa.
Through her remarkable journey, Chief Nike has helped lift thousands of people out of poverty.
In this event organised to mark the Black History Month, Kofo will explore some of the defining themes of her life and work – Feminism, Philanthropy, Fashion and Foresight – and examine how she transformed creativity and cultural heritage into powerful tools for social change.
