The Chico Peppers women's fast-pitch softball team, founded in 1962, left a lasting legacy in Chico’s sports history. Competing until 2005, they excelled in competition, community engagement, and advancing women’s softball. The team combined local talent with skilled athletes from Chico State, benefiting from the leadership of Coach Joan Wallace, who joined in 1967. Locally, the Peppers were known for their sportsmanship, teamwork, and deep connection to the community.
On January 23, 2025, the Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) Board of Directors unanimously approved naming the main field at Hooker Oak Park Chico Peppers Field. To commemorate this, CARD will host a dedication event on April 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM, where we will officially unveil the field and honor the Chico Peppers. The event is expected to bring together the community and former players from both near and far. This is a community event that will be promoted by CARD.
