Chichester Lions are pleased to announce that they are working with PCaSO Prostate Cancer Support Organisation and Chichester Masonic Centre to provide a prostate PSA testing day on Saturday 6th June. The event will be in the Masonic Centre, 7 South Pallant, Chichester PO19 1SY from 10am, for all men between the ages of 40 and 80 years old. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer for men. 1 in every 2 men will have a problem with their prostate at some stage of their lives with 1 in 8 men going on to develop prostate cancer.
Regular testing is particularly important for men who are at higher risk, being those with family history of prostate, breast or ovarian cancer, those of African Caribbean heritage, or with the BRCA1/2 genetic condition, so it is really important to get checked.
General symptoms of problems are: -
• Frequent need to urinate, especially at night.
• Bursting to urinate
• Slow flow, difficult or painful to do so.
• Stop/start and dribbling or blood in the urine
The PSA (prostate specific antigen) test is a simple blood test, conducted by trained phlebotomists, from a vein in the arm, with the samples then analysed by an NHS hospital path lab, with results being advised a week or so later.
