Please bring extra paint/spray cans to this free event! Matthew Ponce is a versatile, multi-medium artist whose creative journey began at a young age. An Indigenous artist, Matthew’s work draws deeply from his heritage and the spiritual wisdom passed down through generations. He has studied under Native American elders, integrating their teachings and traditions into his art. This blend of cultural knowledge and artistic expression informs everything he creates, from intricate graffiti pieces to large-scale murals, canvas paintings, airbrush work, and tattoo artistry.

Matthew’s art is a fusion of street culture and Native spiritualism. His early inspirations came from the vibrant world of graffiti and muralism, and over time, his work evolved to encompass various mediums, including acrylics, watercolor, and airbrushing. His pieces reflect not only the energy of urban life but also the profound spiritual connection to the land, ancestors, and community.

By combining the raw, dynamic forms of street art with the rich, symbolic wisdom of his Native American heritage, Matthew creates work that speaks to both the past and the present. His art carries messages of unity, resilience, and spiritual awakening, inviting viewers to connect with the deeper truths of the world around them.

This Chicano and Indigenous Youth Mural Workshop is led by legacy member Matthew Ponce, whose artist name is Remainder Inners. Youth and guests will gather together to learn the history of murals, different techniques traditionally practiced throughout the regions, and indigenous representation in murals including graffiti . This workshop will take place at the Open Art Wall in the Center Patio and will be supported by the Centro and Decolonize Market.
