Welcome to the Chi Sigma Iota - Upsilon Nu Alpha Spring 2026 Ethics Workshop! Join us for an engaging in-person event at the beautiful University of North Alabama Campus in the Mitchell Burford Science and Technology Building. This workshop will dive deep into ethical considerations in the counseling profession. PROGRAM LOCATION:
The program will take place in room 136 of the Mitchell Burford Science and Technology Building, located on the University of North Alabama campus.


CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:
Six (6) Ethics Contact Hours will be awarded for a full day of attendance. Attendees should also successfully complete an evaluation at the end of the day. No partial credit will be awarded.

Info: Clients with disabilities may encounter significant barriers before they ever enter the counseling room, and meeting minimum legal requirements does not always ensure meaningful access. This session examines accessibility through an ethical counseling lens, exploring systemic and interpersonal barriers, ableism within mental health care, and the cumulative burden of navigating inaccessible systems. Participants will consider how accessibility extends beyond ADA compliance and identify opportunities to create more equitable and responsive counseling practices.

This presentation will explore ethical and legal considerations in record-keeping, including confidentiality, informed consent, treatment planning, progress notes, and risk assessment.
Participants will learn practical strategies for creating clear, objective, and concise records that accurately reflect the counseling process while minimizing legal and ethical risk. Through discussion of common documentation challenges and real-world examples, attendees will gain confidence in maintaining records that meet professional standards, support quality client care, and withstand regulatory, legal, and supervisory review.
