Chet Doxas has quickly become one of the most well-respected and sought after saxophonists of his generation. He is best known for his ability to add his unique voice to a wide variety of musical settings and styles.
Raised in Montreal in a musical family, his love of music was fostered by his father, a musician, music teacher and recording engineer, and his older brother and drummer, Jim, with whom he plays regularly. While still a teen, Chet developed an interest in composition and began leading his own groups. He earned graduate degrees in Jazz Performance at McGill University, where he later taught private lessons.
For several years starting in 2014, Chet co-led the group, Riverside, with trumpeter, Dave Douglas. Their second album features Carla Bley on piano. Chet’s other bands include, Chet Doxas Trio, Doxas Brothers Quartet, Landline, Rich in Symbols, Larum, and the Ceremonial Sextet. Chet has appeared on more than 100 recordings and has released 14 albums as a leader and co-leader. The multiple Juno Award nominee was featured on the Grammy and Academy Award nominated soundtrack, Les Triplettes de Belleville. In 2019 he was awarded SOCAN’s Haygood Hardy Award and in 2022 and 2023, landed on Downbeat Magazine Rising Star Critic’s Poll in categories for Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone and Clarinet. When he is not touring can be found in his Brooklyn recording studio working on his next project or producing for other artists.
