CLOSE BOOK CLUB 04: Book Hunting

This edition of CLOSE BOOK CLUB takes “Book Hunting” as its theme, reflecting on the experience of searching for independent publications while travelling. Many of the publications in our collection were first encountered in bookstores, galleries, cultural spaces and independent book fairs across different cities.
For this event the books arrive in a suitcase. During the event they are gradually unpacked and placed into the space one by one, recalling the quiet ritual of returning from a journey and laying out what has been gathered along the way.
Through this gesture books extend beyond reading objects. Their conception and process of making also become a medium through which ideas move between cities and cultures.
