About this Event

The eclipse was incredible. But chasing one? That's an entirely different story.

Roo returns to the Cambridge Photography Show for another extraordinary journey into the world of total solar eclipses, this time following his recent adventure to Spain for the 2026 total solar eclipse.

After sharing the story of The Great American Eclipse in 2024, Roo has gone back on the road, putting his experience to the test once again in pursuit of totality.

This isn't simply a talk about photographing an eclipse. It's about everything that happens before, during and after those precious few minutes.

From researching locations and obsessively watching the weather, to planning camera setups, dealing with changing conditions and making the most of the brief moment when day turns to darkness, Roo takes you behind the scenes of his latest eclipse adventure.

And, as someone who doesn't consider himself a traditional astrophotographer, his approach is refreshingly accessible. This is a story about taking on a challenge, stepping outside your comfort zone and seeing where photography can take you.

🌞 The Hunt for Totality

Roo will take you through his latest eclipse journey, exploring:

  • The planning and preparation behind photographing a total solar eclipse
  • Choosing locations and preparing for unpredictable conditions
  • Building a reliable camera setup for an event that lasts only minutes
  • The challenges of photographing during totality
  • Capturing the experience as well as the eclipse itself
  • Processing and bringing the final images together after the event
  • What he learned from photographing two different total eclipses

From the anticipation beforehand to the rush of totality and the work that follows, you'll get a unique insight into what it really takes to photograph one of nature's most spectacular events.

📸 From Texas to Spain

Roo's eclipse story began in 2024, when he travelled to experience The Great American Eclipse, which crossed Mexico, the USA and Canada.

Now, he's added another total eclipse to his photographic journey, travelling to Spain in 2026.

Two eclipses. Two experiences. A whole new set of challenges.

This talk brings those experiences together to explore how preparation, experience and a willingness to try something completely different can shape the photographs you bring home.

👤 About Roo

Roo is a documentary-style events photographer with a background in photojournalism and concert photography. His work focuses on the moments that can easily go unnoticed, capturing the details and stories that sit behind major events.

Alongside his photography, Roo works as a freelance events photographer and serves as Head of Photograpghy for Norwich Pride.

He has also taken on the role of Lead Communications & Media Volunteer – Photography for St John Ambulance, contributing to significant events including the King's Coronation and other nationally and locally important occasions.

His approach has always been about storytelling, experimentation and taking on new photographic challenges—and chasing totality has certainly delivered all three.

🌑 Why Attend?

You don't need to be an astrophotographer to enjoy this talk.

If you've ever wondered what it takes to photograph an eclipse, how professionals prepare for once-in-a-lifetime moments, or simply want to hear what happens when a photographer pushes themselves into unfamiliar territory, Roo's latest adventure is one you won't want to miss.

Two eclipses. Two journeys. One obsession: finding totality.
