About this Event
Chasing the Tyburn, The West End’s Lost River – SAVE Walking Tour
Saturday, 20th June 2024| 11:00-13:30
Join SAVE and Dr. Tom Bolton, author of London's Lost Rivers Volumes 1 and 2, on a walking tour tracing the ancient River Tyburn, from Baker Street to Vauxhall Bridge. One of London’s lost rivers, buried to accommodate the sprawling city, the Tyburn still flows beneath the streets. The walk will explore the common history of the river below and that of the parallel streets above, the route taking in many grand institutions of the West End from churches to palaces and even department stores. But the walk also allows us to reflect on the loss of these rivers as natural resources and reserves of biodiversity, a theme never more pertinent than now in the wake of the climate crisis. The walk is 3.5 miles long, and will last around 2.5 hours, ending on Vauxhall Bridge.
Tickets: Friends & Saviours £15 | General public £19 (incl. Eventbrite booking fee)
