Where is the piano trio, as a classic jazz ensemble, headed today? The Rostock-based pianist and composer Constantin Krahmer (born 1986) has offered a clear statement on this, demonstrating his very own approach to the piano and the piano trio. Undoubtedly influenced by the great existing tradition, he has also created his own, highly personal sound world. It is reminiscent of the sonic language of Bill Evans, Paul and Carla Bley, of Scandinavian jazz such as that of Jan Johansson or Christian Wallumrød, but also of Morton Feldman, and in places even of Joseph Haydn or Frédéric Chopin, yet it also goes beyond these influences.
With his trio, Constantin Krahmer pursues a rather calm, maximally acoustic sound aesthetic, innovatively combining melodic power and emotionality with improvisation. His focus is particularly on the subtleties: the pieces are composed with the intention of granting the performers maximum freedom in the detailed interpretation and encouraging the music to develop spontaneously in the moment.
In the Norwegian bassist Dan Peter Sundland and the Leipzig-based drummer Max Stadtfeld, Constantin has found two outstanding partners who complete and enrich the trio with their musical personalities. Both possess a highly developed musical sensibility and can perfectly adapt to Constantin's intended sound aesthetic.
On February 23, 2024, the trio's debut album "Care" was released on the Rostock-based label Yew Records. Kresten Osgood, a legendary drummer from Denmark, says of the album: "One can approach this music from many sides and understand it on many levels. It has great depth which is revealed upon repeated listenings. But first of all, it should simply be experienced and enjoyed for what it is: a dedicated statement of beauty by contemporary musicians who care! Care about detail, care about sound, care about music. It's an album that you can put on and lose yourself in." In the second set, the great Uli Kempendorff will be featured on saxophone!

Wohin entwickelt sich das Klaviertrio als klassische Jazzbesetzung aktuell? Der Rostocker Pianist und Komponist Constantin Krahmer (geb. 1986) hat dazu ein klares Statement abgegeben und zeigt seinen ganz eigenen Zugang zum Klavier und zum Klaviertrio. Zweifellos ist er von der großen, bestehenden Tradition beeinflusst, aber er hat auch seine eigene, sehr persönliche Klangwelt geschaffen. Sie erinnert an die Klangsprache von Bill Evans, Paul und Carla Bley, an skandinavischen Jazz wie etwa von Jan Johansson oder Christian Wallumröd, aber auch an Morton Feldman, stellenweise sogar an Joseph Haydn oder Frederic Chopin, geht aber auch darüber hinaus.
Constantin Krahmer verfolgt mit seinem Trio eine eher ruhige, maximal akustische Klangästhetik und verbindet auf innovative Art und Weise melodische Kraft und Emotionalität mit Improvisation. Sein Augenmerk liegt besonders auf den Feinheiten: die Stücke sind mit dem Gedanken komponiert, den Interpreten maximale Freiheit bei der detaillierten Ausgestaltung einzuräumen und die Entwicklung der Musik aus dem Moment heraus zu begünstigen.
