Charlestown Navy Yard: 174 Years of Naval History and Shipbuilding
About this Event
Please join Mike Manning of the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk for a walking tour of the Charlestown Navy Yard (CNY). The CNY was one of the original six navy yards constructed in the early 1800s for the US Navy. We will explore the history of the yard from 1800 to 1974 and discuss dry dock construction, warship building, shipyard architecture, and many related topics. The tour will begin at Gate 1 and end the USS Constitution Museum.
The Friends of the Boston Harborwalk is a volunteer group affiliated with Boston Harbor Now. The group meets monthly to promote awareness, public enjoyment and local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk. For more information on joining the group, please contact Mike Manning, Chair, at [email protected]
