Charles Dickens was a prolific and highly influential 19th century British author who penned such acclaimed novels as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. His most popular work, the novella A Christmas Carol published December 19,1843, was written in only 6 weeks and it sold out by Christmas Eve. It was the first of four Christmas books that he published.In 1853 he began public readings of this story, first for charity, later as paid readings. He read other works, but A Christmas Carol was his most popular. He eventually read it 127 times until he ended his performances in 1870. From December 1867 to April 1868 he performed over 400 readings on an American tour in Boston, New York, Washington DC and other East Coast cities. A Christmas Carol was his most performed reading on this tour.
Kenneth Noll is a Professor Emeritus of microbiologist at the University of Connecticut. He has been portraying Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens for many years at schools, libraries, museums, private groups in person and on-line.
