San Juan College’s (SJC) annual Charity Bowl Sale will be held on Thursday, November 21, and Friday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The sale is located in the Henderson Fine Arts Center 9000 meeting rooms and is hosted by SJC Professor Don Ellis and his pottery students. It offers one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted ceramic pieces, while making a positive impact in the community. Now celebrating over 20 years of giving back, this year’s sale will once again support Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity®, a non-profit that works to provide adequate housing by building simple, decent homes in partnership with people in need. There is also a local Habitat store where community members can volunteer or donate items to be sold at the store.
Ceramic bowls made by SJC students and staff are available for purchase for $10. Each purchased bowl comes with a free fill-up of hot, delicious soup from Mary’s Kitchen. Other items for sale include holiday ornaments, jewelry, a variety of pottery, scarves, beadwork, and more.
“We are excited to harness our artistic skills to support our community and once again use art in a way that gives back to our local community,” says Ellis. “This year-long effort is rewarding and allows us to make a real difference for those in need.”
Visitors can also enjoy the Annual Fall Student Art Show at the Henderson Fine Arts Gallery from November 1 – December 6. Featuring remarkable artwork by SJC art students and instructors, the exhibit primarily showcases painting, photography, and ceramics. Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces or even add to their own art collections.
