Charan Sparsh

Created, conceived and musically directed by Shantanu Moitra & Kaushiki Chakraborty, Charan Sparsh is a powerful reimagining of Parampara—where reverence meets equality, and tradition flows naturally into the future.

Presented as part of NMACC’s annual festival celebrating the guru-shishya tradition, the production takes its name from the gesture of touching the feet of one’s elders—a symbol of gratitude, respect, and acknowledgement. Here, younger artists bow not to authority, but to the lifelong journey of practice, discovery, and devotion that their seniors embody. Respect remains, but distance disappears.

The evening brings together an extraordinary constellation of artists—Kaushiki Chakraborty, Aruna Sairam, Rakesh Chaurasia, Jayanthi Kumaresh, Ambi Subramaniam, Ojas Adhiya and Akshay Ananthapadmanabhan.

The first half features specially curated solo presentations, offering audiences a glimpse into each artist’s unique musical world guided by their gurus. The second half unfolds as a large-scale collaborative production of original compositions, where generations, disciplines and traditions converge in unexpected and inspiring ways. 

A specially curated Indian symphonic ensemble—featuring pakhawaj, flute, tabla, multi-percussions, santoor, sitar, piano, keyboards and bass guitar—creates a rich sonic landscape that bridges tradition and innovation.

The concert takes the audience from individual expressions to collective exploration, culminating in a grand finale where all the artists come together on stage as one.

In Charan Sparsh, senior and younger musicians meet simply as fellow travellers in music—without hierarchy, without boundaries. Only music: shared, generous and transformative.
