🗺️ What this is
We created the New Year Chapter - a self‑guided route from Da Nang to Khe Sanh via Hue.
📌 The Chapter includes:
• A living Human Atlas (your community’s shared knowledge along the route)
• Route options (different road choices)
• Transport schedules
• Places to stay, eat, and other practical essentials
• Secret hacks and local tips
• Useful contacts (e.g., craftsmen, transport rentals)
• A chat with people who’ve done the route and those doing it right now
• A closing ceremony after you complete the route
👥 The Chapter is designed for a team of 4. At any given time, a maximum of 3 teams can be on the route.
🧩 What’s the point
There’s point A and point B, and in between, freedom. We’ve filled that in‑between with places, contacts, and prompts, but how you move, what you take, and what pace you keep is entirely up to you.
You can use the Atlas as a foundation and add anything you want: take any road, make any stops, change plans on the fly. One thing matters: arrive at point B and take part in the Chapter’s closing ceremony for it to count as completed. (In some places, that ceremony is only possible on certain days.)
🗓️ Day-by-day plan (recommended, not mandatory)
📅 December 29: Da Nang -> Hue
You travel from Da Nang to Hue however you want (car, motorbike, train, etc.). Along the way and in the city, we’ve marked places to stop and things to do, with a focus on culture, traditions, and local spots (though there are options like bars and more, too).
Night of Dec 29/30: Hue
📅 December 30: Hue -> Khe Sanh
You’ll have several route options, plus marked stops with descriptions along the way. In the morning you head toward Khe Sanh; once you arrive, you’ll have lunch at a Lao restaurant and then go up to the base.
🏔️ The base is a set of cozy mountain bungalows with views. Each bungalow is for 4 people; the house includes a sauna, jacuzzi, and a BBQ grill. In the second half of the day you can explore the area, and in the evening (if you want) gather around a fire and share impressions.

🎆 December 31: choose your day
Either you get ready for New Year’s (shopping for food, cooking, or ordering ready‑made meals), or you do a loop through landmark locations: the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the former North–South division line, underground sites, the 19th parallel, and return via Route 9.
We provide options and contacts; how you use them is up to you. You organize your New Year’s table yourselves: buy groceries and choose the format (cook / order).
Night of Dec 31/Jan 1: New Year in the mountains, in the same bungalows
🌬️ January 1: free day in Khe Sanh
You can welcome the New Year not with a “party,” but with a road and real impressions: drive out to the wind turbines, ride around the lake, try local food, arrange a cooking class. ☕ Villages grow coffee; you may be able to pick the cherries and roast the beans (if you can arrange it on the spot).
If you didn’t do the DMZ loop on Dec 31, you can plan it for this day.
Night of Jan 1/2: in the mountains, in the same bungalows
✅ January 2: Chapter completion
In the morning you have breakfast (whatever you cook yourselves, or pre‑ordered in advance). The Chapter ends with a short closing ceremony. After that, you plan your next move: return to Da Nang, continue traveling, or stay a couple more days.
⚠️ Important: format and ground rules
This isn’t a “tourist trip.” Loud parties and blasting pop music across the mountains don’t belong here. It’s better to welcome the New Year in a cozy bungalow, by a fire, or by a fireplace (if your bungalow has one).
Respect local residents and traditions, follow the rules of where you stay, and don’t overdo the alcohol. This is about quiet, presence, and lived experience, not “celebrating the date at any cost.”

• Bookings and negotiations on your behalf (you arrange and confirm everything yourselves)
• A guide, accompaniment, security, medic, insurance, equipment rental
• Any personal expenses, fines, risks due to weather/roads/your decisions
