Have a child interested in birds, wildlife, photography, hiking, or the outdoors? Join the NEW Chaplin Young Birders Club — a FREE monthly club for ages 8–17 designed to inspire the next generation of birders, naturalists, and conservationists.
Youth will learn:
🦅 Bird identification by sight and sound
🪺 Nesting behavior, habitat, migration, and conservation topics
🔭 How to use binoculars and birding tools
📋 Start their own birding life list and participate in eBird checklists
📊 Citizen science and bird count projects
Meetings will include guided bird walks, hands-on conservation projects, trivia nights, native plant gardening activities, and learning local bird species found right here in south central Kansas and local regions. Members will also have opportunities to create presentations and help give a voice to birds and wildlife that need our support.
The club will also take part in optional field trips both locally and within approximately 3 hours of Chaplin to explore additional species and habitats including wetlands supporting shorebirds and waterfowl during migration seasons.
As members grow in experience, they will be encouraged to become leaders within the group by helping support beginner birders and new members.
📅 Meets the 3rd Wednesday in June & July then evenings or weekends based on member vote in July.
🕘 First meeting: June 17 at 9:00 AM
📍 Meet at CNC Visitor Center
As the club grows, additional opportunities may be added including advanced birding skills, wildlife photography, community and CNC conservation projects, etc.
See flyer for more details.
