Egy jövőbeli társadalomban, ahol emberek és sellők egymás mellett élnek, Stephan, egy hajóépítő vállalat egyszerű irodai alkalmazottja váratlan házassági ajánlatot kap Chaótól, a sellők birodalmának hercegnőjétől. Mielőtt még felfoghatná, mi is történik vele, Stephan a lánnyal közös életükben találja magát.
