Meet Your Panelists
David Beach | David Beach is a writer and activist who has been a leading voice on environmental and regional planning issues in Cleveland for more than 30 years. In 1992, he founded EcoCity Cleveland, a nonprofit organization that changed the civic
discussion about urban sprawl, transportation alternatives, green building, watershed planning, lakefront design, and other issues. From 2008 to 2017, he directed the GreenCityBlueLake
Institute, the sustainability center of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. David is a fifth-generation Clevelander. He lives in the Shaker Square neighborhood of Cleveland, where he enjoys the walkable, transit-rich, urban environment. He is a graduate of
Harvard University.
Sarah Davis | Sarah Davis is the Active Transportation Senior Planner for the City of Cleveland, Ohio. She’s spent her career working in transportation, focused on creating safer and more accessible streets for everyone. In her current role, Sarah manages the implementation of Cleveland Moves – the City’s recently adopted 5-year multimodal transportation plan – in addition to managing the City’s shared mobility program and playing a key role in design and policy related to transportation. Sarah previously worked for the City of Boston, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and a transportation consulting firm. Outside of work, Sarah spends her time on long walks, cooking elaborate meals, in her vegetable garden, and trying her best at ceramics or sewing.
Tom Hilde | Dr. Tom Hilde teaches courses on land use planning, the built environment, visual communication, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental policy at Cleveland State University’s Levin School of Urban Affairs. He leads community-engaged class projects as co-instructor of the Capstone Planning Studio. His research centers on fostering resilient urban development with a focus on the multifaceted benefits of green infrastructure such as urban forests, parks, and greenways. He is an avid cyclist and advocate for complete streets and traffic calming to support multimodal safety and transportation choice.
John Skrtic | John Skrtic has been with the Cleveland Public Library (CPL) for over 30 years. He has extensive library experience and is responsible for overseeing the 11 million items in the Library Collection. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Kent State University and a Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University. He is the father of two children and is a life-long resident of Cleveland. He spends his free time archiving the day-to-day activities of Clevelanders and the history of the city online each day.
