With Change, Sacha Eckes steps outside the traditional gallery structure.
She doesn’t present a classical exhibition where individual paintings are simply hung side by side, but instead opts for a setup that is constantly in motion — and constantly changing.
She first invites the viewer to pause and reflect on a common question: When is an artwork actually finished?
Is a work ever truly complete, even if it no longer changes physically? After all, the viewer’s perspective is constantly evolving. What you see today may look entirely different twenty years from now, simply because you yourself have changed — your context, your environment, your life.
During this presentation, the work remains in continuous flux. The context is ever-changing: through the rearrangement of the works, through modifications to the work itself, or through the space in which they are presented.
Sacha also actively involves the audience and invites them to make changes to the work — and thereby contribute to it as well.
This shifting presentation encourages transformation on multiple levels: within the artist, within the artwork, within the viewer’s perspective, and within society. It is a call for reflection — and ultimately, for action.
In terms of content, you’ll find references to Trump, existential questions, and Smoking Devil — a cartoon-like character who has featured or acted in Sacha’s work for over 30 years.
Only through change can we continue to grow… and save the world.
