Harper Brooke’s StoryHarper Brooke was born on March 30, 2019. From the very beginning, she was the happiest little girl—and that joy has never wavered for a single second.
On May 3, 2024, Harper began complaining of stomach pain. What started as a visit to urgent care quickly turned into an ER trip and then a transfer to St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa. After extensive testing and a biopsy, doctors delivered life-changing news on May 14: Harper was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis was contacted immediately, and we left for Memphis on May 17, where we have been ever since.
Over the past 13 months, Harper has endured more than any child ever should. She has gone through five rounds of intense chemotherapy, major surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, two stem cell transplants, 14 radiation treatments, and several additional procedures along the way.
In April, Harper was scheduled to begin the final phase of treatment—immunotherapy. However, on April 4, she was admitted back into the hospital after doctors discovered she had developed TMA, a condition caused by transplant-related damage to her veins and capillaries. Her lungs were filling with fluid, requiring an eight-week hospital stay, during which tubes were placed to drain the fluid while doctors treated the TMA and worked to stabilize her blood pressure.
Since that time, Harper has shown remarkable improvement. She continues to show doctors, nurses, and everyone around her exactly what kind of fighter she is. She has faced unimaginable challenges with bravery, strength, and an unwavering positive spirit. While we don’t yet know what the next phase of treatment will bring, we are taking things one day at a time. What we do know is this: Harper is an amazing little girl, and she makes me better every single day. I am endlessly grateful to be her mom.
