About this Event
To mark International Workers Memorial Day 2026, Sarah Woolley, General Secretary of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, will be a discussion on how we can organise against sexism at work. We will discuss what workers can do to stop sexism, what your rights are and what you should be expecting from your employer.
We hope that this will be an interactive session that everyone, from someone who knows nothing about trade unionism to a seasoned veteran, will find something to take away.
This event also marks the first annual Steve Turner Memorial Lecture. Steve Turner was our long serving President and a stalwart of the Chorley trade union and Labour movements. He helped to revive International Workers Memorial Day as an event in Chorley, following the Morecambe Bay Cockle Pickers tragedy of 2004. Steve made a lasting contribution to our movement and this annual event will carry on his legacy of organising at work to better the lives of working class people.
