Challenges and opportunities of heat pumps in the UK

Speaker, Craig Dolan, Chair of the UK Heat Pump Association will give this talk in association with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and supported by the Chelmsford Science and Engineering Society and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Air conditioning contributes to 3% of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The UK Government has a target of 600,000 installations of heat pumps per year by 2028 and 72,000 were installed in 2022. There are challenges in meeting the target and also opportunities for the growth of a green economy. The talk is carried out by Craig Dolan who is the chair of the UK heat pump association and will include a Q&A at the end of the talk. The event is supported by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Engineering Technologies, and Chelmsford Science and Engineering Society.

With over 16 years of experience in the heating industry, I have held key roles in Marketing and Product Management, specializing in the development and deployment of heat pump technologies to the UK market. My work has centred on delivering innovative and efficient system solutions that align with the technical needs and challenges faced by the industry.

As the chair of the Heat Pump Association (HPA), I have actively represented the industry's low-carbon heating and heat pump requirements to government bodies, including direct discussions with departments and officials at No. 10. I've also engaged with the broader engineering community through commercial radio, explaining the technical advantages of heat pump systems and the crucial role of electrification in decarbonising heat.
