In 2026 we will be delivering several ambitious long-distance Challenge Trails. To complete some of these challenges, you should be of reasonable fitness and able to walk at a pace of approx. 3 mph (5kmph) on the flat, for up to 12 hours, but if you don't think you are quite there yet, this is where our Challenge Trail Training comes in.This second block of Challenge Trail Training (CTT 2) will be a series of training walks over 5 weeks, every Saturday, from Feb 28th, in the North West of England.
By building our speed and endurance over 5 weeks, we will grow both the distance covered and elevation climbed.
A great, long route (18-mile / 29km) around the hills and (valleys) of Rossendale (like the name suggests). Rossendale Round the Hills route, is is a great training walk as well as being the popular annual event run by the Rotary Club. Much of the route is on farm tracks and tarmac, but there are also bit of uneven terrain and plenty bog, so walking boots are recommended. There is also plenty elevation (2,782ft) on this route.
We will be aiming to complete this within 8.5 - 9 hours.
Who is CTT 2 for?
This block is for those who are walking regularly already (at about the 2.5-mph mark) over 15 miles, but still feel they have a way to go to increase their distance endurance. If you think that may be you, keep reading...
It's for you if you want to walk regularly, gaining distance over a few weeks.
It’s for you if, perhaps you would struggle to motivate yourself alone.
It’s for you if you want to walk in a group with an empathetic, qualified leader, who will add challenge appropriately and provide a supportive atmosphere.
